Civilian Defense Volunteers Sought for New Award List

Civilians who have contributed 50 hours or more to civilian defense work are urged to call the Civilian Defense office at phone 37 to have their names added to a new award list being compiled by Mrs. R. H. Adams. Deerfield names Mrs. Ivan Crist as chairman of the village defense nutrition committee, appointed by county nutrition chair Miss Beatrice Frangauist.

Family Night and Club Meeting At Adrian Congregation

The West Adrian Congregational church hosts a family night at the home of Mr and Mrs William Ruesink with each family contributing to the program and refreshments served by a committee. An offering will aid church re decoration. The Adrian Township Extension club meets at noon with potluck and a demo on New Tricks for Old Clothes by Mrs Gerald Seager and Mrs H N Hood. Women of the community are invited.

Deaths and funerals in Morenci and Adrian areas

The report notes the sudden death of Joseph E. Maryl in Toledo at age 70 due to a heart attack, with survivors including his widow Martha Murrin and children in Toledo Camp Atterbury and Adrian. Traffic violators pay court costs in local cases

Six motorists faced Justice Franklin J. Russell for parking infractions and failing to stop or observe a red light. Alfred Culler paid 1 for restricted parking on Michigan Avenue. Ned Krieghoff paid 2 for one hour limit on East Maumee Street. Fred Wetherell fined 2 for parking on a crosswalk. Leland Easter pleaded guilty and paid 3 for failing to stop at Beecher Street and Trent Road. Al Davis paid a fine on a red light violation. Thomas Plackson paid 3 for failing to stop at Williams and Madison Streets.

Detroit youths plead guilty to 10 car thefts

Three Detroit youths Milton S. Franks 16 Joseph G. Keleman 16 and Jack E. Holbrook 19 were arraigned in circuit court for stealing a car owned by Edward Meyers of Clinton. They pleaded guilty and were remanded to county jail for probation reports before sentencing. They had said they came to Irish Hills on a three day army pass and stole the Meyers car after switching ignition wires. The car theft occurred about 2 am east of Ypsilanti and they were arrested by state police. George Tonnencourt faced probation violation charges and received 40 more days in jail while remaining on probation for two years. A divorce decree granted to Cathern Mazzola of Addison from Christopher Mazzola of Netroit on grounds of non support.

Window lighting order rescinded by city

Mayor Clarke W Baldwin announced at the city commission meeting that window lights may stay on until 11 PM under a new conservation rule. The order, approved with Civilian Defense officials, rescinds a 5:30 PM cutoff unless staff remain on premises. Red Cross Home Service Institute attracts fifty delegates

Fifty delegates from Lenawee Hillsdale and Branch counties register for the Red Cross Home Service Institute at the First Presbyterian church. Registration opens at 9 30 led by Mrs James H Baker and Mrs Otto Bratz. The institute is led by Mrs Leah Goesher home service consultant for Michigan.
