Lenawee Heroes Honored At Selfridge Field

Lenawee service members were honored at Selfridge Field near Mt Clemens in a ceremony presenting 13 awards to officers and enlisted men of the U.S. Army Air Forces. Five Lenawee men awarded included Tech. Sgt. Walter A. Miller of Adrian and Staff Sergeant Michael R. Vince of Sand Creek. Vince received posthumous Purple Heart, Air Medal, and Oak Leaf Cluster on behalf of his son. Miller received Air Medal and Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. his father accepted for him. Miller was later reported as a prisoner in Germany after his Flying Fortress was shot down.

Banks pay out Christmas club savings total this year

Adrian banks distributed 94650 in Christmas club savings over the last week or two, down by 10009 from last year. Each of the three banks mailed checks to customers for early Christmas shopping, with no interest earned on payments this year.

Gordon H. Root of Victor New York attached to a ferrying group at Romulus army air base died in a late Friday afternoon crash of a pursuit plane near Rochester New York. Base officers disclosed the information.

Fleet Doubling In Last 11 Months Prompts Navy Optimism

Washington November 27 the United States Navy has doubled its fleet in 11 months and now fields about 835 vessels including 40 plus aircraft carriers. Navy Secretary Knox released figures showing 419 ships built in 11 months, with 234 ships expected by year end and DE destroyer escorts over 40 per month. He cited large gains in submarine and aircraft production and projected 1944 output well above 1943, with total spending rising to about 3.7 billion dollars in stops and planes.

Arnold Falor House Damaged by Fire

Deer Hunters Lose Their Lives in Michigan Season

The Michigan deer season ends after a record 15 hunter deaths. Charles P Kreahl of Gary Indiana died from a back shot by John German near Fibre 40 miles west of the Sault after an operation failed. Previously 16 year old Dorothy Amsden of Saginaw County was listed as the 15th victim but later found rabbits with companions. Andrew Kristalyn, 17, of Saginaw, was loading a gun when she was accidentally shot. The 16 day season closes Tuesday.
