Two cottages on the north shore of Sand Lake were destroyed and a third damaged yesterday afternoon when an oil stove exploded in a small cottage where Frank Goodes, about 70, lived alone. Neighbors aided but only one dairy could be saved as flames jumped to two adjacent cottages owned by Fred Fairbanks of Tecumseh and Fred Schmid of Ann Arbor. Fire departments from Clinton, Onsted, and Brooklyn fought the blaze. total loss not yet estimated.
