At Rochester the National Grange opened with Prof. L H Bailey lauding agricultural education. Resolutions favored initiative and referendum and highway funding. Secretary’s report notes 829 dispensations issued in the year, 2,598 sixth degree certificates, and $9,825.51 in receipts.
Washington West Virginia Vermont figures show charter fees sales of stock and dues. The report notes eighty one granges reorganized last year across states with seventy three more new granges and three hundred twenty nine more sixth degree certificates issued. Supplies sales rose by 1079.61 and total receipts rose 5178.81 after balancing secretary’s funds.
Mrs Eliza Ann Knight, aged 79, pioneer resident of Adrian, died at 1 am in the home of her son Granville Knight at 71 Allis Street from injuries after a fall on five steps leading to the east door. She regained consciousness briefly, then collapsed around 10 am. Dr Treat aided but she died before noon. Born August 13 in Dover township, she moved to Adrian young and was widowed. Funeral notice to follow.
Kohiis McDowall, a young and wealthy businessman, was shot and killed Sunday by I P Furleung of St Louis. Furleung says the act was in self defense after four men assaulted him. a revolver was fired, McDonald reportedly dared him to fire. Mrs Lester Myrick and Grace Halt witnessed, with others from the Governor's Son company. Witnesses reside in New York and are said to be connected with Salvation Army.
Washington November 16 Senate leaders aim to confine extra session business to the Cuban treaty bill with House action expected Friday. General Wood’s military nomination goes to committee and likely to executive session for confirmation. House to take up the Cuban reciprocity bill today with a rule to limit amendments and a Thursday vote planned.
