The D in C Mackinac spotted a waterlogged craft, lowered a yaw, and rescued the two men, who had wrapped in blankets on the cabin roof awaiting their end. The Irving, built in 1865 and owned by John Glair, had departed Alpena for Marine City when a gale drove it toward danger. the Cook brothers, after witnessing several ships, found themselves atop the cabin in blankets as the cold en wrapped them. The Mackinac’s timely arrival brought warmth and life back to the exhausted men.
