Bringman Is New Sheriff As County Republicans Win

Lenawee County Republicans scored majorities in five county offices and statewide posts, led by Elmer Bringman winning the sheriff race 9,516 to 3,305 over Everett Seeley. Prosecuting Attorney L. J. Hammond and other GOP incumbents kept offices with large margins. Democrats failed to win any county office.

State control of dairy setup pushed out

Detroit Nov 4 GPA voters vetoed a proposed state board to regulate dairy prices and practices. The defeat ends years of debate as 386,645 votes opposed to 237,528 in favor from 2,542 precincts. Milk distributors backed the referendum which left the 1931 act inoperative. A 1939 milk marketing board and a 1941 similar measure faced constitutional questions. Proposals for constitutional convention and Wayne county government changes drew lighter support.

Voters Pick Kelly as Next Governor in Michigan

Allies Advance in New Guinea From Kokoda to Buna Road

General MacArthur announced Allied forces pushed about six miles inland from Kokoda in New Guinea. Japanese retreat toward Buna continues with little fighting, as supply lines improve via Kokoda airfield. Buna has been Japanese held since July and is attacked by Allied bombers from Lae and Salamaua. In Detroit, two young boys died in a basement fire while their aunt was voting.
