Bertram convicted in beer theft charge in Lenawee court
A Lenawee circuit court jury found Bertram guilty yesterday afternoon of breaking into the Southern Michigan Produce Company warehouse on Lawrence Avenue. He awaits sentencing as his two admitted accomplices Crozzar and Summerford received prison and probation terms this morning. Crozzar draws three to 15 years plus one to four years for larceny. Summerford gets two years probation and 60 days in jail. Earlier, Everett and Duane Jacobs were sentenced for multiple farm thefts, Everett five to 15 years and Duane one to 15 years for breaking and entering a granary at the Frank Sims farm in Medina township.

Billy Tubbs six year old son of Dr and Mrs R V Tubbs of Blissfield was seriously injured about 5 PM when struck by a car driven by Edward interim of Riga township. The accident occurred on Lane Street in the business section while he and a companion ran into the street. He was taken to his father’s office and then to Bixby hospital in Adrian where he suffered a broken femur a broken collar bone and serious internal injuries. His condition was grave last night but had improved by this morning. No formal police investigation was made.
