Adrian College Holds 4th Annual Commencement
Nearly 200 people attended the 4th annual commencement at Downs Hall Adrian College as 24 seniors received degrees from President Dr Samuel J Harrison. Dr John Owen Gross of Nashville Tenn secretary of the department of schools and colleges in the Methodist church urged graduates to tackle problems with both hands and uphold truth freedom and liberty. Decrees were conferred on 24 candidates including seven BA and 11 BS degrees with six more to be conferred after summer school. Cum Laude honors went to Don Island Don Bruce and Charles Neuroth. Three honorary degrees were awarded Floyd Starr T Otto Nall and John E Marvin. Martha Emerim earned a one year stenographic diploma. Scholarships announced included the Harlan Luther Feeman Scholarship to Robert Kessinger and Marvel Steinboth. Miss Fanny Hay will retire this year with gifts presented. The cane ceremony followed the program with Louis Schneider receiving the cane from Don Iffland. Panel notes reference to the Seraph song and quotes from Isaiah and Steinbeck.

Driver Faces Homicide Charge After Fatal Crash
A coroner s jury found driver Dale Sanborn 34 of Associated Truck Line failed to control his equipment in a crash on US 225 four miles southeast of Adnan at 7 20 am Saturday killing Lester DeWard White 28 and his daughters Barbara Anne nine and Sarah Joan 11. The inquest heard Sanborn had little sleep but said brakes worked earlier. The scene involved a Norwalk trailer unit. witnesses described a violent crash and injuries to others. Prosecutor L Hammord said he would seek a warrant for negligent homicide.

Meat and butter price cuts ordered by OPA
Washington June 7 reductions in the retail cost of meat and butter through government subsidy payments will be effective soon. The meat cut averages three cents a pound below current quotations and will reach packers today, hitting consumers late this month or early July. A five cents a pound butter reduction was ordered last week and will show in retail prices Thursday. The measures, part of an estimated 400 million dollar annual subsidy program, face opposition from trade sources and some Congress members but are praised by labor groups. The American Meat Institute predicts added confusion and possible reduced production by small producers.
