Ration information lists stamps and coupons for fats, gasoline, fuel oil, sugar and processed foods with validity and office hours for Lenawee Ration Board. Birth notices report a son for Pvt. Donald Sharp and twin sons for Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Stange. Local bids for drains are announced by county drain commissioner Archie Brice with four projects.
Lenawee men serve in World War II with Tech Tecumseh and Rollin ties. Charles Ives of Tecumseh trained at Camp Van Dorn after induction at Fort Custer on September 10, 1943. Don Hanna of Rollin, a Pharmacist’s Mate in the Marines, fought at Saipan and later trained at Great Lakes before serving in the South Pacific.
Two Adrian residents see damage after a two car crash at East Butler and Elm. Mrs Hrdlicka drove west on East Butler while Russell Kintner moved south on Elm. Police filed the report.
Advertisement notes sale of cut flowers at Duke Piotter's formerly Poll's Gladiola Garden at 223 near jcut-over. Office closures July 17 to 31 and Dr E E Bus kirk advertised. An office notice states Dr Rentschler will be closed from July 22 through July 28 inclusive. The ad invites patients to reschedule and contact alternatives during the closure.
Mrs. Edith Esterline of 538 South Winter Street announces the marriage of her son Donald Esterline to Miss Mary Seybert of Detroit. The ceremony took place July 14 in Wauseon, Ohio, with plans to reside with Esterline's mother. Donald works at Hard Lock Manufacturing.
The Variety club and families enjoyed a Riverside Park picnic with a large birthday cake honoring Mrs. Clifford Hassett and Mrs. Kenneth Hendrickson. Gifts were presented to both honorees as club members celebrated. Mrs Maxon Morse hosted a miscellaneous shower for Mrs Charles Gishpert, with games, prizes, and many gifts for the bride. Engagement announced for Maxine Yvonne Hines to James R Blanchard with a September 2 wedding planned. Mrs Edwin Holtz hosted a Roundlake cottage chicken dinner for several guests.
The Adrian Vicinity Sun Shine Society in West Ruisa announces that its July gathering has been indefinitely postponed. No new date is set, and members are advised to watch for further notices.
Charlies C Smith and Ruth Etta Smith, both of Adrian, have been issued marriage licenses. The couple is listed in the county records with no additional details.

Six years ago Salvation Army opened a camp at Vineyard Lake for underprivileged children. Baroness Adelaide de Bethune taught art at Siena Heights and painted murals at Benincasa Hall. Russel McAfee, new VP of National Bank of Adrian, and wife moved to Adrian from Detroit, 1453 South Main Street.

Mrs. Ruben Kamprath recovers at her parents home after appendectomy July 11. Sgt. William Soncrant, just from Italy, arrives in New York and heads to a U S hospital. Several relatives visit and news of soldiers ongoing. Hospital notes include patients and transfers, with WAVES recruit Catherine Wilkerson training in San Diego and other service updates.
Lenawee county reports total War Bond sales of 54 554 698 toward a 3 538 000 quota and sits near the E bond target. Adrian E bond sales reach 429 497 against 532 000 quota while county outside Adrian posts 482 646 versus 388 000. Overall county E bond total stands at 912 000 for a 920 000 target as communities list their individual results and ongoing Fifth War loan through next week.
Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 PM at Vogt and Schwartz Funeral Home for John Nichols 82 who died at his home in Dover township yesterday. Coroner verdict says natural causes three to four hours before discovery. Survived by sister Mrs Ida Maxwell of Omaha and niece Mrs Myrtle Nichols of Essexville. Burial in North Dover cemetery.
Funeral services for Henry F Barnes who died Wednesday at his daughter and son in law William Miller’s East Maple Avenue home were held Friday at 2 pm at Braun Funeral Home. Burial followed in Ridgeway cemetery with Rev L A Wilson officiating. Attendees included Wilford and Billy Price Wendell Miller Lewis Eichner LaVere Mapes Loree Barnes and relatives from Forrest Park UL Romulus Holloway Ridgeway Fairfield and Toledo. DEERFIELD July 22 Funeral services for Mrs Frank Seiser who died Friday at 63 will be held Tuesday at 2:30 pm in the local Methodist church with Rev Don S Stubbs officiating.
British Mosquitos pressed air assault on Berlin overnight while Italian based bombers struck into Czechoslovakia and Pardubice refinery, the fifth largest in Europe outside Romania. Bad weather grounded RAF heavy bombers and hindered Normandy operations as U S 15th Air Force and Britain based raids continued.
Bretton Woods New Hampshire July 22 The United Nations Monetary Conference ends after three weeks with agreements for an $8.8 billion reconstruction bank to loan and guarantee private investments and an $8.8 billion monetary fund to promote international trade by providing foreign exchange to nations short of currency.
Allied forces pressed toward Florence from the north, south, and west as Fifth and Eighth Armies closed in on the city. American units moved through the Elsa valley reaching Castel Fiorentino and Barberino dal Val d Elsa, while British troops in the Arno valley advanced near San Giovanni. On the Adriatic coast Polish troops reported progress near Senigallia, and new German divisions were redeployed to Italy to reinforce battered fronts.
In Sacramento on July 22 George Brandenburg won a $5,000 judgment against Pacific Gas & Electric Co after a jury deliberated an hour and a half. Brandenburg dropped to his knees and prayed during the trial prompting a defense motion for a mistrial which the judge denied.
The jury heard conflicting accounts of trips by Sen Leo J Wilkowski and Rep Francis J Nowak to Washington and Baltimore to meet lobbyist Major Charles F Hemans. Hemans testified he faced pressure about returning to Michigan and telling the grand jury the truth while insisting he had done no wrong.
German broadcasts reported Berlin refused further contact with Britain over the killing of 50 British and Allied airmen. The Reich government rejected British charges of murder, citing Eden’s conduct in Commons before a final Berlin report.
President Roosevelt telegraphs his heartiest congratulations to Harry S. Truman on his nomination for vice president. He says he is happy to have Truman run with him and asks to be informed of plans and to meet soon. The message came by telegraph.
Sidney Hillman, political action chairman, declares confidence in Truman before official nomination. AFI leaders back Truman while not opposing other candidates. Hillman says Wallace support does not oppose another choice. John J. O'Connor condemns CIO influence as un-American amid Democratic infighting. Roman calendar note mentions a 304 day year of 10 months.
At the Adrian Grange meeting last evening Mr and Mrs Harold Jones and Mr and Mrs Ernest Spyder were named delegates to the Pomona Grange meeting on August 3 at the fair grounds. It was decided to collect waste paper on August 4 and neighbors are asked to bring paper to the grange hall that evening. A program of games and contests was enjoyed, with refreshments served by the Spyder and Westgate couples.

Fair and warmer tonight in Michigan with Sunday partly cloudy and continued warmth. Yesterday’s high reached 81 and overnight low 51. Observations show a 24 hour period ending at midnight with a maximum 83 and minimum 46, no precipitation. Moon and sun rise and set times noted.
