Three Hobos Force Deputies to Surrender in Michigan

In Ann Arbor on July 17 deputies Fred Gillen Bert Gillen and George Fischer chased a band of hoboes who overpowered them winning back their revolvers after a brief struggle near an icehouse. The trio escaped westward with most of the deputies’ gear and a $50 reward was offered for their capture.

Indian manslaughter plea ends in suspended sentence

Bird Head a Ponca Indian aged 6 0 and his squaw aged 81 pleaded guilty in federal court to manslaughter on a reservation and were released with suspended sentence. Perry Laravne had unintentionally slain their son Peter and in tribal tradition handed life to Bird Head who shot him. The squaw cut him with an axe, matching Indian law with white law.
