U S Navy Victory in Solomons Reported

United States forces scored a naval victory in the Solomons with probable sinking of six Japanese ships and damage to four others in the Kula Gulf near New Georgia. The action, fought July 5–6, ended with U S forces holding Rendova and southern New Georgia as ground mopping up continued.

Fire damages attic near Tipton. loss insured

A fire yesterday afternoon at a house two miles west and two miles south of Tipton damaged the attic and dining room ceiling of Mr and Mrs Harvey Warner after the family kept it under control with a garden hose until Adrian rural fire truck arrived.
