Balloonist Prof. Keyes collapsed from gas and heat in St. Joseph Sunday afternoon, in critical condition as crowd dispersed. Avon steamer caught fire near Sault Ste. Marie. two tugs assisted while Victory and Manitoba supported crew. Avon, carrying flour and grain from Duluth to Buffalo, towed by Cheney. upperworks damaged and engines disabled. Hull likely undamaged and cargo water damage limited.

Awful accident near Oxford with man crushed between gondola and trolley pole

Duane Dear a 23 year old brakeman on an Oxford line train was crushed between a gondola car and a trolley pole Saturday night. He suffered multiple fractures and lung injury and was hospitalized with slim chances of recovery. Relatives plan to sue the railway company. Also reported are Turnfest crowds in Saginaw and the sudden death of Henry Hulbert in Colon from apoplexy.

Theatre recital at Gorleston church draws crowded night

St Joseph Michigan reports a record 78 marriages in the week ending last Sunday, with 18 solemnized Saturday. Buffalo July 1 a notice on the City bank door states it is in the hands of the comptroller of the currency and will not open today. Nine arrestees in Tug River clash amid union strife

In Thacker West Virginia on July 1 Detective T L Felts and Deputy John Justice led a six man posse across Tug River into Kentucky to seize nine men accused of terrorizing workers by denying sign signals along the railroad. The captives surrendered and were held for Kentucky court action while J Charles Burke of the United Mine Workers was jailed on a separate charge.

Dr Byron Sunderland Dies at 83 in Washington

Prominent Reverend Byron Sunderland of Washington died at his son in law Orrin Day's home of cerebral embolism on July 1. He served 43 years as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Washington and officiated at Grover Cleveland's wedding to Frances Folsom. He was born in 1819 in Vermont and known for scholarly attainments and steady leadership.
