Isolated as tor railroads loom, Meretskov's Valkhov army drives from Novgorod toward the Leningrad region. The main Moscow Leningrad line breached near Kirichi, 28 miles northeast of Chudovo. Grand jury resumes ts secret sessions after accussing

In LANSLSG Jan 26 circuit Judge Leland W Caer resumed testimony in a one man grand jury probe of graft in state government. The secrecy veil dropped again after a partial lift that charged 26 men with conspiring in 1939 to influence the Michigan legislature via bribes. Special prosecutor Kim Sigler was ordered to seek custody of five unaccounted co defendants. Former State Senator Ernest G Nagel and Senator Charles C Diggs faced warrants and preliminary hearing set for Feb 2. Nagel protested as warrants were read and Diggs was released on bond. Red Cross Secretary Begins Duties in Lenawee Chapter

Mrs. Victor Wahl of Eau Claire Wisconsin is appointed executive secretary of the Lenawee County American Red Cross. She assumes duties at the rural chapter house, bringing 20 years of volunteer service and a University of Wisconsin degree. New York January 26 CBS correspondent John Daly reports three Allied hospital ships were attacked by German planes in Anzio Bay. The Leinster identified the sunk vessel as the St David while the SS Antes is also said to be involved. German attacks used torpedo divers and glider bombs.

NWLB accused of overstepping bounds in wartime policy
