German 4500 mile bomber downed in Britain
London dispatch reports a Dornier 217 bomber with a 4500 mile range was shot down in northwest England after hitting a barrage balloon cable. Four crew members died. Torpedoed Tanker Malay Reaches Newport Under Own Power
The 8,206 ton Malay arrived at Newport News under her own power after a two hour sea attack off the North Carolina coast by a lurking Axis submarine. Shell detonation wounded crew, and a torpedo failed to sink the unarmed ship though four crewmen died and several were injured.
