At Cape Gloucester on New Britain the Marines repelled five Japanese charges at Walls Ridge in the fiercest fighting yet seen there. Lt. Col. Three Fordson High students die in Dearborn bus crash

In Dearborn Michigan on Ford Road an overloaded Dearborn Coach Company bus sideswiped a car and struck a tree killing Robert Drake Betty Krause and Wilmer Ford all 17 17 and 16 from Garden City who attended Fordson High School. The bus was packed with students and war workers from Ford plants.
