Detroit Marine Hero Dies Saving Wounded Men

A letter from Lieut Col Shannon of the U S Marine Corps to Estelle Cannon describes the heroic death of 26 year old George B Cannon of Detroit as he refused evacuation after an enemy shell struck his station at Midway Island. Cannon, a graduate of Detroit Southeastern High School and the University of Michigan Engineering School, died while ensuring his wounded men received care.

Cottage fire kills two children in Land Lake area

Special to The Peiergram reports Jimmy Moorn aged four and his sister Jean Ann Moorn three perished when a blaze engulfed the two story cottage east of the roller skating rink near Land Lake. State Police said overheated stove or stove pipes likely sparked the fire about 10:15 p.m. today. search for the bodies continued as Clinton and Onsted fire units arrived too late to save them.

Man Kills Woman Then Leaps To Death In Foyer

New York report says Ancha Moreau, 32, shot 24-year-old Mrs Amelia Weigog in her apartment foyer, then climbed five flights to the roof and died after taking poison. Detectives say Moreau, an electrician and suitor, quarreled recently with the victim and her sister, Mrs Almeda Franco, who witnessed the events as she fled into the street.
