Woman War Worker Killed When Car Skids on Ice
A thin ice crust coated Lenawee county roads after a light drizzle, triggering a fatality and multiple crashes. Lois E. Clapp, 22, of Blissfield, died from injuries after her car veered on Town Line Road, three miles south of Blissfield, and wrecked into a ditch and culvert. Her husband Irving Clapp serves in the Army Air Corps at Love Field. Also injured were Adrian teachers Beatrice Fishity and Helen Hickins, struck by a car at Lo fst and Maumee Streets. Vida Fadhman broke an arm. Road crews and sheriffs deputies reported several crashes across the area as vehicles slid on ice. Mrs. Gerald Griffin of 323 Front Street received a War Department notice that her husband Private Gerald H. Griffin was slightly wounded in Italy on December 15. He has been overseas about four months, after serving in North Africa and then Italy with U. S. troops. The 23 year old enlisted March 27, 1943, trained at Camp Weijers Texas, then Camp Shenango Depot Pennsylvania. He worked at Tecumseh Products before enlisting. his parents are Mr. and Mrs. Victor Griffin of 130 Chestnut Street.
