The city sold 260000 dollars of parking system revenue bonds at 4.4 percent to McDonald Moore and Co. of Detroit, lowest bid of five. Bonds issued 1961 74 with varying rates and total interest about 97593 dollars. Funding will cover land purchase 217000 dollars and parking lot improvements.
Michigan State University hosts Farmer's Week as 50 000 visitors view more than one million dollars worth of farm machinery. Robert C. Kramer notes 130 000 farms employ 230 000 workers with 600 000 in agricul turally related industries. Advances in harvesting and mechanization promise lower costs, while officials push for a uniform milk inspection code. Dr. Whitehead cites progress against brucellosis though TB remains a concern.
Hartford City Indiana two grade school teachers were killed by Principal Leonard Redden in a shotgun attack inside Miss Harriet Robson fifth grade class and Mrs Minnie McFerren sixth grade class. Redden fled the scene prompting state police roadblocks and a search. The decedents were long time staff members with no prior known trouble.

A 12 foot easement across land west of the city barns to Cities Service Oil Co was approved 5 1 with Commissioner Miller dissenting. The code discussion concerns updating the national electrical code to the 1956 2 78 acre land purchase by the city for public works access on Race Street.

Tufts College geology group reports finding a rude bat sheltering explorer Robert F. Scott on his fatal 1912 Antarctic expedition. The bat was found at Granite Harbor with two books by Poe and Jules Verne, shoes, spice boxes and tobacco tins. Dr. Nichols announced the discovery after a three month NSF Antarctic expedition.
LANSING The state welfare department postpones opening the maximum security unit at Whitmore Lake near Ann Arbor. Contractors now expect the unit ready only by month end. About 20 to 25 inmates are to transfer first, with 25 new staff to be hired mid February. When complete the Lansing school will house 600 juveniles and 350 staff.
In Lansing the 1959 toll report shows the states long distance calls and rentals totaled 2 246 591 with 3696 381 in long distance charges. Sen Elmer Porter and Gov Williams push to cut costs amid a Senate dispute over data access and executive control.

Detroit story notes 71 year old Armstrong a Wyandotte bachelor and former shipyard worker left half of his estate to Carl W. Borge and bequeathed another $100,000 to the University of Joneen. Borge learned of the windfall after Armstrong’s death.
Republican women plan a house to house survey to count Republican voters in the county. Township chairmen listed include Mrs. Carl Buehrer Adrian city and others. Chairmen will appoint precinct and block captains to assist in the survey.
