Resuscitator debut aids drowning victim at Devils Lake
Within hours of its demonstration to Island Park resorters the new life saving device purchased by the Island Park Recreation Club was used in a drowning incident at Devils Lake. Harold Scharer, 41, of Toledo died after a boat outing with 10 year old Joseph Spratt Sr. The boy was saved by artificial respiration. Rescuers recovered Scharer’s body. coroner ruled heart attack likely the cause. The device was showcased by Norman MacHenzie and others from Adrian and Michigan State Police.
