Medina Church Reunion Draws 200 at Mrs Kiefer Home

Morenci Michigan August 21 survivors of the old Congregational church in Medina gathered at Mrs Martha Kiefer’s home for the eleventh reunion. More than two hundred attendees enjoyed a day of reminiscence with prayers, songs, poems, and a necrology list. Officers were elected to continue the reunions with plans to meet again in 1906.

The Snow Plow Invention Claim by Samuel Holyoke

A resident of Agran claims Samuel G. Holyoke pioneered the snow plow used on railroads. Patented January 21, 1856 as No. 14169, the design features a rotary blower with knives, driven independently to sweep the track width, mounted ahead of a box car and reoriented to catch wind. Holyoke states the blower is powered separately from the locomotive, capable of opposite rotation. Railroads did not adopt the device before patent expiry.

Cheboygan Michigan August 21 John McArthur son of J B McArthur has skipped to avoid arrest on a criminal assault charge. Warrant in officers hands. He allegedly assaulted a 12 year old girl and another girl two years older. He fled with his wife and baby left with his father. Officers seek his whereabouts likely in Canada. Public indignation is high.

Suspect Arrested in Detroit Murder Probe

Detroit police have arrested Charles F. Edwards in the murder of Alphonse Wilmes found near the Michigan Stove Works. Eyewitnesses in the Wilmes neighborhood identified a trampish man seen giving pennies to children and acting queerly. A stranger at Mrs Niff's saloon near Jefferson and Adair trembled, refused a drink, and bore wet sleeves, with Edwards’ photo matching but not exact.

Compromise Proposed to End Bay City Shipyard Labor Dispute

Citizens' committee offers a settlement between American Shipbuilding Co and its workers in Bay City Michigan. Proposal calls for a ten hour day with a wage rise of 246 cents per hour for iron workers and carpenters and 1 cent per hour for shedmen reamers drillers and punchers. About five to eight thousand visitors attended the Modern Woodmen and Royal Neighbors annual picnic in Alma Michigan on August 21. Bands from Big Rapids Durand Welthman and Alma performed. J G Kress of Alma and E J Butlard of St Johns addressed the crowd. Owosso Foresters won first prize of 350 for drill work and Ithaca took second with 30.
