New County Education Board to Convene Monday

The county board of education, elected August 4 by 183 district representatives, will meet Monday at 8 p m in the court house office of Milton C Porter, the county superintendent, to organize and discuss duties. Members are Robert Bruce Blissfield Nathan Knowles Mrs E T Armstrong Adrian Hal Benner and Elmer Eberhardt. Terms start July 1 and a biennial election will occur the first Monday in June after terms expire.

Monroe Couple Die in Collision of Car Truck and Bus

Two Monroe residents, Luther Birchfield and Dora Birchfield, were killed in a noon collision involving a car a truck and a Deluxe Motor Stages bus at Cambridge Junction. A 10 year old son Claude Birchfield is critically injured with a fractured spine while nephew Andrew Manning is treated for possible fractures. Coroner Mott said the deaths were accidental and no inquest.

Plans Guilty Plea In Atomic Documents Case

U S Attorney Owen Burns said Alexander Von Der Luft a 23 year old ex army sergeant from Mt Lebanon will plead guilty on Aug 21 before Judge Robert Gibson in Pittsburgh. He is charged with stealing and concealing government documents from Los Alamos related to the atomic bomb project. Maximum penalty eight years and a 7000 dollar fine or both. Von Der Luft claims the papers had only souvenir value.

Truman backs price investigation and world peace outlook

President Truman voiced full support for the Justice Department probe into the high cost of food clothing and housing saying it should reveal who bears responsibility for high prices. Twenty two Buchenwald operators sentenced to death

An American war crimes court in Dacha u Germany sentenced 22 Buchenwald camp attendants to hang for atrocities against inmates after a four month trial. Five others received life terms including Ilse Koch. Sentences followed a trial of 31 defendants with the court chaired by Brig Gen Emil C Keil.

Man's Cry For Help Prevents Electrocution

Pomona Grange Elects Delegates for State Meeting

More than 250 attended the Pomona Grange gathering in the Adrian armory. Master Clarence Kileidinst presided and elected delegates to the State Orange at Hillsdale October 27 to 30: Mrs. Alice Hoddinott of Rome Grange and Charles Patterson of Tecumseh Grange. Prof. T. G. Watson of Ohio State University spoke on Grange symbolism, noting the state degree tour and sixth degree conferred 19 times on 10,600 candidates for the national Grange in Columbus in November. Attendance cups went to Rome and Deerfield Granges with visitors from Wayne Jackson Monroe and Hillsdale counties. Pomona Grange expects strong turnout at state and national meetings.

Truce Violations Reported as Indonesian Attacks Rise

Batavia Indonesia August 14 A Dutch army communiqué reports new truce violations by Indonesians. Oil installations at Pangkalanbrandan in northern Sumatra were set ablaze by Republican forces. About 300 Indonesians attacked Dutch-occupied Kajoengoeng in South Sumatra. Intermittent mortar and automatic fire targeted Dutch outposts near Soerabaja and Malang in East Java. Dutch casualties numbered eight wounded yesterday.
