Survivor Saved After 73 Hours In Water Off Great Lakes
Standish Mich Aug 6 Bay City Coast Guards report a second survivor from the Sunday fishing cruiser wreck on Saginaw Bay. Abraham La Bean a 32 year old Bay City welder was pulled from the water after 73 hours clinging to a water-logged life jacket. His wife Dorothy’s body had been found shortly before, bringing total survivors to four and nine bodies recovered. La Bean joked with rescuers and recalled taking the larger life jacket as he weighed over 200 pounds. He swam seven miles to shore with Dorothy Repkie the other survivor while her husband Louis drowned attempting safety. Guardsmen describe the rescue as miraculous.
