Detroit August 2 Sheriff officers and city police guarded as dies used for Ford Mercury cars were taken from the Murray Corp of America plant on an 11 day strike by United Auto Workers. The union did not halt removals though local president Lloyd T Jones warned they would question the destination. Drivers held writs of replevin to move the dies despite picket lines. The strike has hampered Ford production and followed two earlier failed attempts by Dearborn Machinery drivers to passage through pickets.

State Employee 21 Admits Drug Smuggling Into Prison
James C. Moore, 21, of Lansing, admits smuggling common nasal inhalers containing drugs into Southern Michigan Prison while supervising inmate bonus form processing. A skull lower jaw and other bones were uncovered in a test excavation northwest of Cambridge 12 miles in a flood control reservoir site due to be inundated in 1949.
