British Bombers Strike Deep into South Germany

Eight RAF Lancaster bombers reached Augsburg 150 miles inside southern Germany near Munich, striking diesel works used by the German submarine fleet. Three bombers were shot down by heavy anti aircraft fire. the rest returned safely after dark.

Adrian Community Fund drives past goal with $12,390 pledged

At the final round up dinner Adrian workers reported $12,390 pledged for the five day campaign, short by $2,600 but hoped to top the goal in four days. Majors and captains led pledges across organizations including Associated Charities, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire, Salvation Army, YMCA, and industrial plants with totals and per-plant percentages listed. Rangoon Raided by U S Bombers in Burma

On April 15 a squadron of U S heavy bombers raided Japanese held Rangoon Burma, heavily striking docks and harbor installations. The communique said the raid took place at night, the raiders returned unscathed and suffered no damage or casualties. The United States Air Force issued the communique.

Cape Charles Va April 18 Two Navy divers rescued Ber hard, a professional undersea worker, after nine hours held prisoner under mud and water at the Virginia Ferry Company slip. Dredging collapse trapped him at 20 feet. rescue required four hours of relays. He suffered mud pressure shock exposure and minor leg injury. He had been trapped previously at 17 feet a year earlier.

Newark April 13 Ralph Greco 35 of Hoboken described by the FBI as the number 1 bank robbery fugitive in the United States was in a jail cell today awaiting arraignment on charges from the August 5 1939 First Stroudsburg National Bank robbery and a July 21 1928 Suffield Bank holdup. Also in custody was William Vasilic 41 Passaic wanted in the Stroudsburg hold up and a Pompton Lakes robbery. Greco denied involvement and fingerprints confirmed his identity. authorities said he is sought by police in NJ NY PA and CT.
