Rich copper vein found at Charmian mines
A native copper vein four feet thick lies ten feet beneath the surface on United Mining Milling and Copper Smelting property. It yields about 35 percent copper per ton. metallurgist Henry Johnson of Sheffield supervised smelter overhaul and led prospecting to locate a gold vein, but discovered the unusually rich copper seam. The opened shaft previously worked by Eagle Mining produced far less copper.

Hagerstown Judge Fines Hotels for Minor Drinking
Judge Keedy imposed a $50 fine on the Blue Mountain House proprietors for permitting minors to drink on premises after an earlier summer offense before the hotel burned. Pleas of guilty were entered by Hagerstown Country Club and Charles E. Ochs, with indictments for selling liquor to minors. Motorcycle Accident In York Rider Hurt At East Berlin
Samuel W Hassler of York suffered a painful shoulder injury in a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon between East Berlin and Abbottstown. His bike struck a gutter at high speed, throwing him a distance. He was found along the road and taken by car to East Berlin where Dr Eugene Elgin treated a fracture before transporting him to York.

The bronze group by F William Sievers for the Virginia monument at West Con federate avenue is completed and viewed at Tiffany studios Corona Long Island. Seven figures depict Pickett's brigade in the wheatfield fights of July 2 and 3 1868 with a color bearer banner and a mounted color bearer, artillery bugler, a civilian looking artist, a mechanic turned soldier, a businessman, and a last figure signifying another profession. The scene shows a defensive pose amid a shattered cannon and shell. The pedestal stands ready for General Robert E Lee on Traveler.

Libertated Prisoners Freed in Emmitsburg Jail Break
Two prisoners escaped from the Emmitsburg jail with help from Charles Hess who was arrested with them but posted bail. Hess removed door hinges and freed the pair who had been charged with house breaking. The fugitives were recaptured. two were sent to Frederick jail with Hess again providing bail.

Diphtheria Breaks Out Again in Midway and McSherrystown
Diphtheria has erupted anew in Midway and McSherrystown with three quarantined homes. Norman Kuhn, nearly two, died twenty hours after illness at McSherrystown. Kathleen Funk, 8, contracted diphtheria in Midway, and Ralph Weaver, a grandson, sick at Midway a quarantine was ordered by Health Officer David Krise. Dr J A Clutz preached in York churches.
