4 H Girls Do Well at Fair Pontotoc County
Pontotoc county 4 H club girls posted strong results at the Oklahoma State Fair with multiple top placings in clothing and home demonstration events. Members from Fontator and McLish clubs earned honors, and Bonita Bradley Phyllis Sullivan Patsy Langley and Mary Ann Griffith attended the state fair judging school. Governor Berry attended the Sept 26 judging school dinner as a special guest.

Muskogee Doctor Taken to Hospital
Dr. Harry E. Hewitt Jr a 41 year old physician was committed to Central State Hospital at Norman in a straitjacket after a violent struggle with four deputies in his office. His wife had requested the transfer following the death of Mrs Arlene Shuler of Texas who died within 24 hours after Hewitt treated her for a headache The preliminary hearing had Hewitt denying intoxication and the case was dismissed by Judge Beavers after five doctors declined to guess the cause of death Mrs Hewitt signed a petition for commitment on the day of Mrs Shuler's death and asked that action be delayed until after the hearing Powell the county judge said Hewitt was in 'pretty bad shape' and two psychiatrists examined him though findings were not disclosed.

A canning budget from 200 entries earned first. exhibit included jars of fruit vegetables pickles relish meat preserves. Jay C. Puthuff, 30, described as a smooth operator with a prison record, told Seminole police he and a accomplice traveled the country in a stolen 1250 Pontiac under aliases Stephen Lion Self and Lena Self. He had forged checks, served two years in a California penitentiary, and was arrested on forgery and stolen car charges after a bogus check attempt. An arrest order had been issued by Seminole police, with only a color and license plate available at first.

Leroy and Bob Underwood are charged with assault with intent to kill in Justice of the Peace court. Arraignment is set for Sept. 15. The brothers allegedly attacked Bronson Johnson with an iron rod and a pocket knife at Minnies Place, injuring his right shoulder and chest.
