The Pontotoc County Fair in Ada wrapped after a three day event with 700 exhibitors praised by county agent C. H. Hailey and attendees. Exhibitors and visitors credited the fair as a success amid questions about rural fairs.
Pontotoc County posts a record number of exhibits with over 3 000, four times Murray County. Local results include 26 county winners and 35 exhibits headed to the Oklahoma City state show, with a strong 4 H and women division performance led by Miss Martha Mote. Dairy shows dip, beef and poultry rise, Shetland ponies grow, and major cattle and hog classes crown champions.
Local residents report visits across Ada Sulphur and Walnut Grove including Glenda Wallis Briggs and families to Lubbock and Sulphur. Members welcome new neighbors Doyle Newby and Dr Hambrick while 4-H activities prep for Pontotoc County Fair.
Mr. and Mrs. George Smith and Georgia Sue visited Mr. and Mrs. C. C. East in Seminole on Friday. Mrs. Lula Keeling returned home for the week. Mrs. Lela Rose celebrated her birthday Sunday at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Crockett. Mr. Earl Rose attended this dinner at Francis.
Mr Earl Rose reports two pheasants escaped from a large pen he built for his birds last week. The pheasants belong to the Roses and raise pheasants as a hobby. Mr and Mrs J R Walby of Sweeney Texas visited Ada friends and helped celebrate East Central’s 50th anniversary.
Treasa Golden visited Union Hill School on Thursday. Mrs. Yvonne Gray and Russell and Ricky of Connerville visited Mr.
Visitors to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Haines included Harold Haines and Mike, and Clarence In gram of Casa Grande Arizona. W J Jones and Delphia hosted guests from Nicoma Park Midwest City Hawaii and other towns. The Union Hill community is noted for its industrious neighbors as Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Haines butchered a celebration.
Mr and Mrs Charley Enloe visited Mr and Mrs Louis Daniels of Chickasha this weekend. Mrs Daniels is the former Judy Enloe.
Mr and Mrs Charles Williams with Jan and Joe from Oklahoma City visited Mr and Mrs Arthur Ebrite this weekend keeping family ties active in a neighborhood gathering.
Mrs Dorthey Ebrite and her children spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Alfred Shahan in Ada.
Mrs. Vera Roberts visited Mrs. Minnie Lewis Saturday afternoon on her way to Shawnee to visit her mother Mrs. Bert Sparkman.
The Lewises hosted relatives from Decatur Tennessee for ten days. Visiting them were Mr and Mrs Charlie Dennis and Mr and Mrs Earnest.
Earnest Bostic and Walter Lew attended the rodeo in McAlester Saturday night. Mr and Mrs Bostic spent the evening with Mr and Mrs Walter Lewis.
Mrs Ruth Dennis and Mrs Bonnie Bostic of Decatur Tennessee along with Bobby Lewis of Tulsa and Mrs Ruth Lewis spent time with Mr and Mrs Frank Lewis and watched Miss America on TV Saturday night. Other locals attended supper with Mr and Mrs George Lewis including Mr and Mrs Charlie Dennis Mr and Mrs Earnest Bostic Mrs Ruth Dennis Mr and Mrs Walter Lewis and Bobby.
Mrs Colene Robertson and Mrs Helen Jaques shopped in Oklahoma City Monday. Tamra Robertson stayed with grandmother Mrs Dorchie Booth during the outing. Mrs Ollie Tucker visited Mrs Bee Robertson and Mrs Alene Tucker Thursday afternoon. Bee Robertson is remodeling her house inside.
Rev. B V Pendley engages in painting window screens as part of a community service drive. The effort aims to brighten homes and support local charity projects with volunteer labor or donations.
Mr and Mrs Bert Jones and Mr and Mrs Sidney Isaac spent Sunday in Tulsa with Mr and Mrs Don Cooley and children. They also visited at the airport while there. Robert Jones is spending the week with Mr and Mrs Bert Jones.
Mrs. Johnny Tucker and baby and Mrs. Billy Jim Robertson and Tamra spent Monday with Mrs. Delbert Tucker and children.
Mrs Pat Evans and her children are ill with colds and a number of Oil Center residents are on the sick list, indicating a local outbreak or widespread cold season afflictions in the community.
Mr and Mrs Roy Curtis report their son Burkey of Shawnee is very ill in the local hospital and under oxygen. Relatives Thelma Jean Garrett Sondra Hansel Burk and Floyd Burk visited him Sunday afternoon at Shawnee hospital. Mrs Curtis is Ruby Mae Burk.
Mr and Mrs Doyle Lee Evans spent Sunday in Oklahoma City visiting friends and enjoying a day away from home.
Mrs. Cornell spent Friday with her sister Mrs. Earl Melton. The two sisters shared a day in town and caught up on family matters.
Frank Roberts assists Mr Ward at the filling station formerly run by Roy Eaton, helping with a wash and grease rack installation and related work duties.
A list of attendees from here includes Mr. and Mrs. Earl Franks, Mrs. Mary Pinley, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Henson, Mrs. Thelma Jean Garrett, Sondra, and others at the Pentecostal Holiness Church Homecoming in Johnsonville.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Robertson of Pauls Valley dined with Mr and Mrs Gene Standridge Sunday night. Ada residents Mr and Mrs J R Perkey joined the Standridges for dinner. Arthur Jones and Bert Jones hosts welcomed Mr and Mrs Ted for a Saturday night visit.
Mr and Mrs Delbert Tucker and children dined Sunday with Mr and Mrs Billy Jim Robertson. Tuesday night Johnny Tucker and baby visited. Saturday night they visited Mr and Mrs Gene Hood and baby. They later attended a drive in theater. Children were visiting Mr and Mrs Odis McGallia rd Thursday.
Mrs. Lee Littles of Pauls Valley visited her sister Mrs. Floy Burk Sunday night and had supper with her.
Galey party visits Mr and Mrs Clark on Saturday night with Mrs Jewell Willoughby and Dean present. The note mentions James Galey as a person in the scene.

Clinnie Crow visited Mrs Minnie Lewis Monday morning and they went to Gaar on business. Earl Melton and Linda returned from Amarillo after Linda’s surgery and are home. They made a business trip to Ardmore Saturday with Hamp Northam who is seeking arthritis treatment. Emma Suttle of Marlow is visiting Earl Melton this week. she is Mrs Melton’s mother.
