Stonewall Route One carrier F Chadwick to mark 34 years delivering mail on the same route. Since 1920 he has served about 300 residents over 27 miles, greeting locals as he makes morning rounds along the Ada Weekly News route.
Approximately 135 Pontotoc County Thunderbirds will join 5 000 other members of the 45th Division for the return of the colors ceremony at the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City. Lt Col Lewis Colbert announced the event with ceremonies featuring Governor Johnston Murray and Major General Hal Muldrow.
Pontotoc County Farm Bureau and Extension Service sponsor a public meeting on Monday September 20 at 7 30 p m in the District Court room to discuss if Pontotoc County is suited for irrigation. speaker Bob Duffin Oklahoma A and M extension service will present irrigation data and slides.
U S Senator Mike Monroney announced Pontotoc County joins 32 Oklahoma counties approved for drought relief by the U S Department of Agriculture bringing total to 69 of 77. The aid includes cheap livestock feed and government loans while local officials await official guidance on available programs. The drought committee has sent additional information to determine county needs.
Four Pontotoc county 4-H Club girls will compete for statewide honors this fall as their record books are entered in the state contest announced by Miss Valdene Kozel assistant home demonstration agent. Judging will be in early November by specialists from Oklahoma A and M College in Stillwater.
Wendell Steward begins as the new assistant county agent in Pontotoc County with a public meet and greet at the Pontotoc Free Fair. He will take over October 1 replacing Lester Smith who led the post for nine years and helped build the dairy program and 4-H in Pontotoc. Steward previously managed ASC for Okemah and is a 1959 Oklahoma A and M graduate from near Grove.
The Pontotoc County Free Fair begins at 8 am as 4-H and FFA exhibitors rush to register. Early signs indicate a record number of entries amid judging by 4-H girls in four divisions and plans for state fair participation.
Dr Charles F Spencer and the music department greet fathers and mothers as East Central State College opens Parents Day with a general assembly. Class visits begin at 11 followed by lunch with students in the Knight cafeteria. Continued on Page 2.
Franklin Homer a 19 year old sophomore at East Central State College scales a sign on East Main in a dare derived stunt. He later departed his dorm with friend Jay Davis of McAlester to fetch a midnight sandwich.
A unique Ada Junior Sportsmen exhibit operates at the South eastern Oklahoma Exposition. The booth at the east end of the grandstand presents a model farm focused on wildlife conservation using modern habitat improvement techniques.
Thelma Stroud three miles west of the city expresses joy at starting at East Central College after a long hiatus. She earned a GED using her Bible for guidance, hoping to become a writer while guiding her three sons and Westview Troop 98 Scouts.
