Two Way Plan Could Boost Pasture Returns In Oklahoma

Oklahoma State trials show irrigation combined with rotation grazing could raise annual gross returns by about 5 million dollars. over two years beef gains averaged 531 pounds per acre over 175 days, versus 467 with irrigation alone and 220 with continuous grazing and no irrigation. Elbow rye carried 50 percent more animals in winter months, while Balbo rye surpassed in spring months.

Big Brother Watches Soil Bank Lands Inspections Begin

Henry Little, chairman of the county ASC committee, says continuing visits will check farms enrolled in the Soil Bank program for crop or grazing activity and that cover crop practices comply with contracts. Inspections run through 1958 for Acreage Reserve and 3 to 10 years for Conservation Reserve contracts, with random countywide checks after basic verifications, and reports of possible violations trigger county visits.
