Gov Murray and Mrs Murray accept invitation to Ada on September 15 for the 50th Anniversary celebration. Editor W D Little notes their planned presence and expresses happiness to join Ada friends. Claude Thompson alerted them, and they look forward to the event and meeting local residents.
Kansas City area flood danger waned as Kansas River fell and rains subsided. Despite relief, industrial districts Argentine Armourdale Central remained on alert after July flood damage totaling millions in Missouri and Kansas. President Truman planned to tour affected zones, engineers maintained no new flooding, dikes hold at 29 feet, while businesses moved assets and plants paused operations.
Oklahoma City report says polio cases have peaked for the season. Dr James C Wails of the state health department notes 27 cases the week ending Tuesday, down from 34 the prior week. A new patient entered Crippled Children's Hospital and another was admitted to Benedictine Heights in Guthrie.
E C Frosh underway at East Central State with tests for group placement and enrollment instruction through Saturday under Dean Treadwell. President Charles F Spencer urged optimism and urged students to engage in campus life while Willis Dixon urged senate participation and officer selection.
City sanitation chief Bill Castlebury reports half the city has been fogged with spraying crews working evenings and nights. The west half is finished except where no alleys exist, and after completing the east half they will spray garbage tans along streets without alley service following garbage trucks.

A special new realm opens in Konawa as two men, Tyre Lave and Louis Reed, build a motor-cart enabling three paralyzed brothers Roy 24 Carl 16 and Jerry 11 to leave home. The cart uses three bicycle wheels a small motor and canvas top with gas supply lasting about five days. Local business men pledge support to keep the tank full and maintain repairs.
Capetown dispatch reports Oscar the young elephant sent from Cambodia to President Truman died aboard ship when the crate skin failed. Assigned as a goodwill gift, Oscar had received special care during the voyage and was fed two tons of cane sugar at Durban before burial at sea planned later today.
Oklahoma Governor Johnston Murray will attend the three day Ada anniversary events from Thursday September 23 to Saturday September 11. Queen candidates enter a runoff and voting occurs at the fairgrounds. Washington September 6 The Senate Finance Committee chairman George of Georgia said the new gambling tax approved by his group could raise as much as 2 billion dollars annually though many doubt the figure since gambling is illegal in most states The House estimate for commercialized gambling is 400 million yearly The panel also approved provisions that will cut about 224.6 million in revenue versus present law The tax would impose a 10 percent excise on bets with bookmakers and lottery operators plus a 50 dollar yearly occupational tax on those accepting or handling bets
