Agriculture Costs Up Prices Down For Farmers
The October review of the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service finds farmers receive similar totals to last year for January through September with higher costs and lower prices. Hog prices fell about four dollars per hundred from the August peak, while fed cattle and feeder cattle softened though demand for feeders remains strong. Overall, marketings were slightly lower and the AMS forecasts cattle prices holding up with a favorable leverage versus last fall.

Boggy Shows Some Signs Of Progress

Rhynes Survives 4 Mile Drag After Calf Rope Accident
Dr Willard Rhynes a 28 year old veterinarian and rancher is hospitalized at Valley View with a fractured ankle lacerations and severe abrasions after a rope entangled on a calf catch dragged him four miles from a ranch near Jesse. Doctors report he is doing fine and may go home this weekend.

Oakman 6th Annual Reunion and Homecoming Draws Big Attendance
The Oakman sixth annus homecoming was held Sunday Oct. 20 with about 250 attendees. Activities included Sunday School at 10, Rev. Scott Jonas as speaker, a noon basket lunch, and an afternoon of visiting and singing. Jimmie Caton led the opening, gifts were given to Mother Kelloge and Mr. Isang, and many locals joined in group singing and specials before a business session.

Flu spreads across county closing several schools
The county faced a flu outbreak this week as several schools including Allen Stonewall Vaness Ablosa and Lawrence closed early. Absentee rates reached 6 to 7 percent overall with Stonewall recording over 25 percent. Supt. D. D. Duke noted the illness began in the high school and moved downward.
