Ada Barber Sam Matthews Dies in Ada

Sam Matthews 66 a well known Ada barber died Monday in a local hospital after a heart condition. Services set for 2 p m Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Dr David G House officiating burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Matthews born April 12 1899 in Francis lived in Ada since 1935 and owned Matthews Barber Shop in the Juliana Hotel complex. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist and past master of Ada Lodge 119 AF&AM. Survivors include wife Lennie two sons Conley Ada and Jimmie Tulsa a daughter Phnaughn Peery Del City a brother Tom Altus seven sisters and nine grandchildren. Masonic graveside rites to follow.

Ada Man Recalls Marine Duty in Vietnam Front Line Hue Area

Ada resident HM3 Richard L. Krause discusses his Vietnam service as a Navy medic attached to the Marines 3rd Bn 3rd Marine Division. He describes frontline combat, VC tactics, medics under threat, and his hopes for medical school after separation. He was on emergency leave to recover from his father’s surgery at Valley View.

Janice Chilcoat of Va noss 4H club will be Pontotoc County 4H delegate to the American Royal in Kansas City October 16 20 She daughter of Mr and Mrs Melvin Chilcoat Pickett community has four years club service and is active in Vaness 4H She was secretary last year and taught the recreation class for officers training She is a candidate for 4H Key Award 1965 and county chairman of the electric program for 1965 Delegates from Kansas Oklahoma and Missouri will attend Tours of Kansas City Truman Library Art Institute Livestock Exhibits and a night at the Horse Show The Home Demonstration Council sponsors the trip
