Oklahoma FFA members head to national convention in Kansas City
About 400 Oklahomans will join roughly 12 000 FFA members at the 44th National FFA Convention in Kansas City Missouri opening Oct 13. Oklahoma’s delegation includes state president Jerry Gnossby and others. 18 members will receive the American Farmer Degree, and several will participate in the National Band and the National Chapter Award program.

Connerville Boy Earns American Farmers Degree at National FFA
Glen Ferris of Connerville, son of Tom and Mrs. Ferris, will receive the American Farmers Degree at the National FFA Convention in Kansas City on October 14. He is among 18 Oklahoma recipients after a record career with the Tishomingo FFA Chapter, including Star Green Hand, livestock judging, and Grand Champion Steer. He operates 71 head of cattle with 61 registered Angus and studies pharmacy at Weatherford.

East Central State College Receives 6000 Grant for Blind Students
East Central State College has been awarded a 6000 grant from the Oklahoma Rehabilitative Services and Visual Services Division to support its blind students program. Dr E W James says funds cover staff salaries for the project led by Thomas E Thompson with a full time clerk a part time secretary and a part time student secretary. Materials and supplies are provided by the college and the aim is to aid academic work and avoid duplicate reader services in year two.

New pest control device is studied in insects
An Agriculture Department scientist says natural parasites could control crop pests like the corn earworm cotton bollworm and tomato fruit worm at lower costs than pesticides. OSU enrolls its second known triplets at Stillwater
Biggs sisters Karen Katherine and Kathleen, all triplets, are juniors at Oklahoma State University- Stillwater. The trio, from Pickett Pontotoc County, transferred from Murray State College, attended Vanoss High, and plan teaching careers in home economics and speech.
