Garner blasts Hoover in response to a presidential address, accusing him of inconsistent fiscal policy and favoring select creditors. He argues the Hawley Smoot tariff worsened farm distress, crippled foreign trade, and that credit should not be hoarded by a few banks while farmers suffer.
Ligon and Todd report a new well in the Lebee field on Ken Starritt land, flowing since Monday night at an estimated rate of 600 to 1,000 barrels per day. The well sits at 2,345 feet in Hunton lime, with about 1,000 barrels of tankage filled. An offset may be drilled soon and more locations expected nearby.
Vice President Charles W. Curtis told reporters in Lincoln on October 5 that farmers are loyal and patriotic, equal to other citizens. He said they seek better prices but remain fair and unbiased as they encourage continuing national support, promising to carry the country as in 1925.

At the Albany state convention Roosevelt and Alfred Smith publicly reconciled in support of Lehman for governor. They praised each other and urged a Democratic victory in the upcoming elections as party leaders debated Lehman’s nomination amid Tammany Hall opposition.
Judge J F McKeel of the highway commission returned home and explained he accepted the Federal Bureau of Roads program not for merit but to avoid loss of federal aid. He criticized the agency for not allowing state input and said higher bids still yield about 25 percent more with the current funding.

Ardmore Oklahoma Oct 4 Oscar Brandon 28 convicted robber will spend the rest of his life in the state penitentiary at McAlester. He was sentenced to years imprisonment at hard labor by District Judge John B Oxden after his motion for new trial and appeal were withdrawn. Brandon was found guilty of holding up the John E Weber family of Fort Worth Texas. The jury fixed his punishment at 99 years in prison and relatives of the farmer would take no further action to forestall enforcement.
Will Rogers the humorist and actor left Los Angeles by air this morning for a three week visit to South America. He will fly to Brownsville Texas to board a regular scheduled airline to Buenos Aires.
Oklahoma City Oct. 344 An appeal from disbarment recommendations of the state bar board of governors was filed with the supreme court today by W N Maben Tulsa attorney and former Pottawatomie county official The governors alleged Maben filed a forged appeal bond which led to the release from state prison of Bill Armstrong who had been sentenced to 25 years for robbery in Pottawatomie county.
The Dixon Creek Oil and Refining Co has filed in federal court claiming Panhandle proration regulations are discriminatory and void. It asks the Texas Railroad Commission be enjoined from enforcing its orders against the company’s Gray County wells. A hearing before Judge James C. Wilson is set for October 14.
A district court jury convicts Oscar Brandon 27 of armed robbery and imposes a life term for the August holdup of John Weber's family near Ardmore Oklahoma. Co-defendant Albert Ellis received the death penalty. Ellis's execution is scheduled for December 6. The Webers were held up during a motor trip and their 18 year old daughter was kidnapped and left bound in a cemetery.
Oklahoma City October 5 W D Humphrey vice chairman of the tax commission argues that federal reserve controls and bankers cause economic distress. He calls bankers a fair weather wizard and says proper administration of the Federal Reserve Act by President Hoover can solve the farm problem within 24 hours.
Aging wearers of the ray gathered at McAster Oklahoma for the annual state convention of the United Confederate Veterans. The event runs through Friday with the Sons of Confederate Veterans and United Daughters of Confederacy in attendance. General Richard A. Sneed, secretary of state and former national commander, is a speaker.
