Peanut Harvest Delayed to October 15 in Most Fields
Curtis Floyd of Corn Products Company says harvest will be delayed for full maturity while peanuts mature well. Growers expect digging and drying to begin after kernels turn brown inside the hull and moisture reaches 18 to 20 percent. Oklahoma growers, buyers, dryers and the state Peanut Association have worked on a four year quality program with progress.

Young Allen boy reports UFO sighting near Fittstown
Fourteen year old Eugene Williams and his father Simon Williams saw a bright object near their home on September 22 and sketched a diagram. The sighting matched reports from an oil rig crew traveling northeast to southwest and lasted only a few minutes with the craft hovering about 1000 feet up.

Ada airman returns after Viet Nam service and funeral leave
Douglas Gene Morris of Ada has returned from 15 months in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division and is on military leave to attend his father Richard H. Morris's funeral. The specialist four earned the Army Commendation Medal for heroism in December 1966 while serving as a UH-1B door gunner.

Supervisors Hold Monthly Meeting In Pontotoc County
The Pontotoc County Soil and Water Conservation District held its regular monthly meeting at the Soil Conservation Service Office on October 2. Attendees included chairman B M Stephens and members Dr Harvey Price Walter Wooley Jr and C C Buxton Jr with Kenneth Yoakum and Lovella Williams present. Conservation plans approved covered many farms and now 1185 farmers have plans. farm ponds were completed on several farms and ACP funds plus SCS engineering aid supported the work.

Ada City Council OKs election ordinances and bonds
Ada City Council approved two ordinances calling an October 31 election on a one cent city sales tax and authorizing 500000 dollars in revenue bonds for the Downtown Environmental Improvement project. A third ordinance covered new school bus stop safety rules for motorists. The council tabled a request from Brockway Glass Co. to annex and de annex property. Tanti Study Club members urged local grants and community projects in seven planning divisions including traffic safety and city planning.
