Results of election in Pontotoc county

The Pontotoc county board tabulated results for measures 41 to 43 and initiation 75 with majorities against most questions. No. 79 carried strongly in Ada, with 1,449 to 408, while Tyrola reported voting irregularities before order restored. Officials prepared to deliver official returns to the state board in Oklahoma City.

Hogs Fall at the Packing Centers in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City hog market Tuesday saw buy­ing by Arkansas and California packers. Prices eased with packers paying about 10 cents less for most hogs, while shipping-grade hogs sold higher. Packer top reached 7.30, shippers paid up to 7.50, bulk around 7.15. Stockers ranged from 4 to 6, some calves selling to 35.25.

Grand jury acts end Pontotoc county probe with 26 true bills

After an eighteen day inquiry the Pontotoc county grand jury released a final report naming 7 felony indictments and 19 misdemeanor charges against Roff officials and townsmen. Indictments include murder against Mack Lee and Banks Robertson. A total of 197 witnesses testified since September 12 while arrests were not yet made.

Castleberry Held On Charge In Knife Incident

Castleberry is held on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon after a brawl in the office of A G Winn. Claud Castleberry allegedly stabbed Vaness Walker, who was rushed to a local hospital and reported resting well. County investigators say Walker suffered three knife wounds with arterial loss of blood. Castleberry was arrested early this morning.

Train wreck plunges into swollen Coal Creek near Caspar

Caspar Wyoming September 28 a derailed Denver and Rio Grande or similar passenger train plunged into Coal Creek after a bridge gave way. Rescue efforts hampered by rising water as crews used a derrick to lift cars and search for victims. Estimates of dead range from 40 to 100 with many passengers escaping by climbing from flooded coaches.

Former Pontotog County Man Burned to Death

A Pontotoc area man known as John Jones who resided there for 18 to 20 years reportedly burned to death in a house fire near Alyord Texas. The fire occurred around September 10 and was suspected incendiary. Jones left his home about two years ago. his wife was the sister of Capt. W. C. Neal of Ada. Local firs t investigators had led the inquiry with early suspicions of arson.

Mitchell Tries to Appoint New Election Board

Oklahoma City dispatch reports a clash over Pontotoc county election board appointments. Sam A. McKeel refused to recognize A R Sage and Pearl Jones as Appointees amid directives from W G McAlister to ignore Mitchell. Attorney General Short warned any interference with election machinery will be prosecuted.

Weatherly Acquitted in Burrow Slaying Murder Trial

Weatherly was acquitted of murder in the slaying of Henry Burrow after a four day Coal Fata trial. Jury deliberated about one hour. Local attorney Robert Wimbish led the defense with witnesses from Pontotoc and Coal counties cited.

Mary Lockhart Dies. Funeral at Lightning Ridge Cemetery

Mary Lockhart daughter of Mia Locshart and grand daughter of J Vandegriff, residing miles west of Ada, died Wednesday at 1 PM. Funeral services and interment were held today at Lightning Ridge cemetery.

Wealthy butcher confesses to murder plot for insurance

Eureka California. Alex Kela a wealthy Lodi butcher confessed to authorities that he killed a stranger on his ranch on September 14, set fire to a haystack to hide the body and fled to enable his wife to collect 106000 in life insurance. He claimed the plan was his and not meant to involve himself. His wife, an expectant mother, is unaware and in Lodi under guard.

Pontotoc County Exhibit Heads to Muskogee Fair

Pontotoc county sends its top agri cultural exhibit to the Muskogee Free Fair with county agent J B Hill overseeing. The Pontotoc display, a winner at last month’s fair, includes farm commodities and prize items. Mrs Etva Duvall and J D Hill lead the project, with ten youths selected to accompany the exhibit to Muskogee.
