Washington Sept. 24 United Press reports a demand for the recall of Turkish Ambassador Rustem Bey over recent remarks about United States internal affairs. Turkish officials reacted cautious and diplomatic channels remained open for resolution.
Washington announces strict neutrality between Villa and Carranza. Government will maintain silence and watchful waiting in the Mexican situation.
The News reporter reports the state fair fully meeting expectations with strong agricultural and livestock exhibits. Pontotoc county presents a solid display, the canning clubs shine, live stock and poultry attract visitors, and the mineral building reveals widespread mineral varieties. The OK Cement Co exhibits cement uses amid a busy main hall.
At a Democratic county central committee meeting the campaign committee for Pontotoc county was named. R. M. Roddie serves as chairman with Dr. J. A. Deen as secretary and George V. West, L. R. Clark, and W. H. Ebey as members. The group aims to mobilize a full Democratic vote in November.
J W Balthrop shipped a car of sweet potatoes to Sapulpa and Tulsa today and expects 4000 bushels from 20 acres this year. He is among the county’s most successful potato raisers and plans to store surpluses to command a fair price annually.
Rome reports Italy asks Austria to stop laying mines in the Adriatic. Italian fishing boats have been sunk by mines, and officials doubt Austria will comply, as mines shield Austria from Allied fleet attacks.
Oklahoma now operates on a cash basis for the first time since territorial days. Debts will be paid with warrants issued for services or goods, redeemable in cash immediately, ending six percent interest costs and large discounts from warrant sales. Dunlop credits higher levies and sound management by his office and the board of affairs.
Washington dispatch says the Constitutionalist Junta believes the Villa Carranza split will be healed with Carranza's complete capitulation. Carranza would retire as first chief and run as a candidate. the likely successor would be Fernando Calderon, a Villista.
Sheriff Duncan and deputies report twenty six felony arrests in September. The notice lists entries: J. O. McIntyre and Bowlin Jes of Maxwell ages 27 and 2y. Tom Myers and Nora Kline of Tyrola ages 21 and 16. E. J. Davis of Ada 22 and Laura Blank enship of Ada 17.
Ada Good Roads activists plan a return visit to Holdenville for the Oklahoma Lincoln Highway Association meeting on October 6. About 100 rode a special car to Ada for the last gathering and organizers hope Roff Fitzhugh Ada and Francis will join the Holdenville trip. Participants will depart at 10 o clock and return at 5 27.
The Golden Gate Contest increases prizes with three extra gold watches for the fourth to sixth place. The first three win trips to the Panama exposition next year. The watches are described as desirable, encouraging many young ladies to enter and strive.
Juarez dispatch says Villa rejects mediation in the dispute with Carranza. He accuses Carranza of violating the Torreon treaty and notes forces remain mobilized. Villa released Obregon and said they would meet soon on the battlefield.
The annual Eastern Oklahoma conference of the M E Church South will meet in Ada starting November 11 with four to five hundred attendees including ministers wives lay delegates and visitors from Oklahoma and other conferences. The event promises spiritual uplift and commercial opportunities for the city.
The National baseball commission set the world series schedule with games in Philadelphia and Boston. The opener and second game occur October 9 and 10 in Philadelphia, games three and four October 12 and 13 in Boston, game five October 14 in Philadelphia, game six October 15 in Boston, and a potential seventh game decided by a coin toss between the clubs.

Total enrollment through the third week is 993. High school 85, South 445, Irving 7A 303, Willard 178. Scarlet fever fears kept many out. enrollment may reach 1200 or 1300 by midyear.
Prof. M. R. Brents of Roff reports a 7 to 0 victory by his team over Davis in a hard fought contest. He notes coaches were former Normal students and mentions a forthcoming game against Madill as well as preparations for Saturday's Davis rematch.
In Zacatecas on September 30 Villa telegraphs Carranza while a peace conference at Aguas Calientes is pursued. Villa and aides seek a peaceful settlement but demand Carranza’s removal. Villa orders his forces to suspend actions but hold positions as Villista troops move from Chihuahua.
A man attempting to rob a bank in Preston Oklahoma was killed by a nitro glycerine blast at 2 am. The town marshal found his scattered remains near the bank and Fort Worth papers on the body aided no identification. Authorities believe he planned the robbery.

Late Saturday afternoon a man was found unconscious and dying three miles north of Ada. He died Monday morning after being moved to town. The notebook on him identified him as T. L. McCoy, son of J. M. McCoy of Newcastle Oklahoma. Death likely linked to prolonged water exposure during pearl hunting. Funeral conducted by Rev. T. P. Turner at Rosedale Cemetery.
This week the contestants are divided into two classes based on vote totals. First class has under 100,000 votes and second class over 100,000. Prizes include cold meat forks for first class and oyster forks for second class, plus six capital prizes in the Golden Gate Contest: three trips to San Francisco and three gold watches.
Oklahoma City September 29. Caddo county wins first place for the third consecutive year in the county collective agricultural exhibits. Frank Thralls of Hydro, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Thralls led the exhibit, judged by H. A. Winters of Winona, Illinois. Cleveland County second with 919.5 points, Jackson County third at 916.5, Pontotoc thirteenth with 650 points.
Governors and representatives from numerous cotton states form a subcommittee to draft a plan setting the price of cotton at ten cents. Governor Cruce attends the meeting in Washington on September 28.
The war office reports heavy fighting on the allied left as French forces regain ground around St Mihiel. The Germans are repulsed with heavy losses in an attack on Trecy Lamont, ending rumors of a German right retreating.
Secretary of War Garrison wired General Funston there is no possibility of withdrawing American troops at Vera Cruz within the next ten days.
President Wilson plans to pull federal troops from Colorado if coal operators do not accept his three year truce. Officials confirm the information as reliable.
Prince Freeling democratic candidate for Attorney General will tour Oklahoma from October 6 to October 10. He schedules a historical address at the Muskogee fair during Jefferson Day observance and then stops at Tahlequah Westville Stillwell Sallisaw Spiro Weleetka Okmulgee Ada with afternoon and evening talks.
Sixteen hundred bales of cotton stored in the lower hold of the White Star liner Cretic ignited while at the pier in New York Harbor. Italian reservists crowded in the steerage fled as smoke forced evacuation to the pier. City fire boats gained control. damage limited to the cotton in the hold.
Firefighters used the new auto engine to battle a blaze in the cotton yard on East 9th street near the flour mill. Lint bales were damaged, likely after boys playing among them struck a match. Two water streams and a chemical suppressor quickly doused the flames.
The International Typesetting Machine Co. makers of the Intertype have sent notices confirming they will buy a bale of cotton at 10 cents from each of the ten leading cotton states. Proceeds from the sale of the first machine made will fund further cotton purchases at the same price in a Southern town. The movement is spreading rapidly and will likely absorb a large portion of this year’s surplus crop.
