Corn crop looks strong nationwide harvest progress
The Agriculture Department reports a record corn harvest pace with about 96 percent of the crop gathered by November 7, ahead of the 69 percent normal. The 1978 corn crop was estimated near 5.87 billion bushels, a 2 percent rise from 1975, while soybeans were 80 percent harvested, ahead of last year’s 75 percent. Farm incomes are expected near 1976 levels, despite market uncertainties abroad.
