Oklahoma 4-H Club Congress attendees named

Two Pontotoc County 4-Hers Gary Golden and Katherine Biggs of Vaness will attend the 18th annual Oklahoma 4-H Club Congress in Oklahoma City November 23 to 26. About 130 4-Hers from across the state will join sessions, tours, and the National 4-H Congress in Chicago after a three day program ending with a city shopping trip.

Pontotoc County Passes $400,000 Mark In Bonds

Pontotoc County officials report residents purchased 405 793 in Series E and H Savings Bonds and Freedom Share Notes during January through September 1967 reaching 64 82 percent of the county goal of 626 000 County chairman Benton Browning announced The statewide nine month total was 43 917 454 or 72 7 percent of 60 400 000 The year to date bond sales are 6 5 percent ahead of last year Browning urged citizens to buy bonds to curb inflation support troops in Vietnam and benefit from tax advantages The slogan Buy Bonds Where You Work was cited and Browning challenged Americans to follow the example of troops in Vietnam.

Kerr Carlton Delegates to Angus Convention

Robert H. Kerr and Carlton Corbin of Ada and Fittstown registered Angus cattle breeders have been elected to represent Oklahoma members of the American Angus Association at the national beef registry meeting on November 20 in Chicago. Oklahoma ranks among the top 10 states in Angus registrations as the association holds its annual meeting during the International Livestock Exposition. The American Angus Association, based in St Joseph Missouri, is the largest beef cattle registry group in the world.

Annual Pecan Show Sets Dates at Ada Fair Grounds

The Ada pecan show will run November 30 and December 1 at the Ada Agricultural Center. Food and nut exhibits must be in by 1 p.m. on Thursday. County extension director John Netherton notes show results guide grove improvements and lists judging criteria including appearance kernel, shell, cracking, and overall yield. Adults and juniors may exhibit pecan foods, with recipes attached, and a county pecan cookbook will be produced from winners.

Wheat Farmer To Be Honored At State Convention

ALTUS AP An Oklahoma wheat farmer who died in 1959 will be honored Friday at the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association banquet. The Mr. Wheat award will go to Mrs. Joe Beherman of Kingfisher for her brother, the late Joseph Danne, who developed several wheat varieties incl the Triumph strain now grown on about a quarter of hard red winter wheat acreage in the United States and nearly two thirds of Oklahoma's 5 million seeded acres.
