Fire destroys Haley home and funds from sale
Fire of undetermined origin leveled the home of T. H. Haley on Monday. More than $1,100 from a recent peanut sale was lost. Neighbors helped, only a mattress and quilt were saved, and Haley moved his car and tractor to safety. He plans to rebuild at the same site. insurance partly covered the loss. The Haleys are now living in the previous Lee residence.

Lee Melville 54 Dies at Home in Union Valley
Lee Melville aged 54 is found dead in his bed at home in Union Valley after a morning trip to Ada. Services are scheduled Monday at the family home with burial in the family cemetery under Criswell's direction. Survivors include a daughter Frances Melville Shawnee a son Newton Melville Paoli a father Samuel G. Melville five sisters two brothers and two grandchildren.

Old Ways Beat Fire At Lula
A grass fire near the railroad burned several acres of Paul Johnston's pasture and threatened his barn at Lula. Johnston fought it alone until help arrived from neighbors. volunteers with no hoses or extinguishers used buckets and wet sacks to contain the blaze.
Charges Dropped in Bogus Check Case Against Curtis Graves
The county court case against Curtis Graves for a bounced check is dismissed. Prosecutor H. Butler of Sampson Oil Company and witness Allen urged dismissal after alleging Graves passed a worthless ten dollar check on August 31 in exchange for two dollars worth of gas and eight dollars in cash drawn on Case State Bank of Stonewall.
