Sandy Creek flood control contracts set for December bid openings
Harral Allen, chairman of the Sandy district, announced contracts for the first four detention structures at sites 1, 3, 7 and 10 will be let December 4 after a three week advertisement period. The next unit for sites 29 30 31 is planned about two weeks later with bids opening December 17.

Services Held At Fittstown for James L. Johnson
Funeral services for James Leroy Johnson were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fittstown with Rev. Joe Howry and Rev. John Walker officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Ada. He died in an Ada nursing home at 1 a.m. Friday after two years of declining health. Johnson, 73, had lived in Oklahoma since 1898 and was a member of the Fittstown Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, two sons, three sisters, one brother, and 12 grandchildren.

Feeder Pigs Fetch $13,928 At Pontotoc Coal Sale
The Pontotoc- Coal County Livestock Association sponsored a second feeder pig sale Friday afternoon netting $13,928.44 for local producers. Twenty-nine consignors sold 797 pigs at $39.76 per cwt and $17.47 per head with top price $64 per cwt and low at $24. Credit cites graded lots vaccinated pigs and ample grain as key factors boosting demand. New breeders participated and the sale surpassed last May by $2,672.16.

Grass Fire Destroys Shop and Tools in FITTSTOWN
A grass fire at the rear of Johnny Johnson's machine shop damaged a pasture owned by Albert Wilson and a Wirdell Howry storage building. A lawnmower, air conditioner and garden tools were lost. Walter Graper’s extinguisher and hoses from Albert Wilson helped contain the blaze as residents aided. The Howrys and a church building were spared.
