Allen High School Gas Explosion Shatters Classroom Wing

A massive natural gas explosion at Allen High School collapsed a wing trapping students. Carolyn Miller suffered severe burns, and her father Mr. Miller was burned helping, with 23 taken to hospitals and 25+ treated. About 100 students were inside when the blast occurred.

Easements Sought For Vanoss Gaar Corner Road Project

Kent Spellman of the state highway commission seeks easements on three miles of Gaar Corner to Vanoss road from area landowners to allow grading drainage and bridge work. The project totals about 207 600 dollars with 104 600 estimated for surfacing and drainage later. Easements cover 100 feet total width, 50 feet each side, with potential extra land costs if needed. Feed ing 112 lbs. cottonseed cake daily in a fattening ration for steer calves is superior to feeding 1 or 2% lbs. daily in drylet cattle feeding. Steers fed 142 lbs. made faster gains early and maintained them throughout the trial at no extra cost per hundred lbs. gain due to greater feed efficiency. In two tests, varying the level of protein supplement.

County Hunters Await Opening Of Deer Season

A large county delegation plans to attend the rifle deer season opener on November 11 across seven southeastern counties. Oklahoma now allows rifle deer hunting statewide, with rifles restricted to the southeast and shotguns with solid slugs used elsewhere. Landowner permission is required for shotgun hunts.

Sherrell Fails to Rally From Fall at Reeves Ranch

Ed Sherrell 45, southern Pontotoc County rancher, remained unconscious and critical at Valley View Hospital after a Saturday fall from his horse on the Reeves ranch near Pecan Grove. Friends say a cow pony tangled with hog wire, causing a severe head injury and hours before he was found. No improvement by Thursday.
