A Pontotoc County native is reported as another casualty in the World War effort aiding the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese forces. The notice underscores the ongoing cost in American and Pontotoc county lives before peace is secured.
Ada marked Memorial Day with stores and offices closed and residents honoring fallen kin. One local, Pfc. Reginald N. Isaacs, age 20, was killed in action in Luzon on March 23 and buried with full rites in an American cemetery on Luzon. Isaacs grew up in the area and served since 1944, earning a special cannoneer medal and diploma.
A statewide tuberculosis control drive will begin July 1 funded by 118000 dollars from federal and state sources. Dr. Richard M. Burke announced the purchase of X-ray machines and a mobile unit. The program will tour the state starting September offering free exams. Patients needing treatment will be sent to Clinton or Tahlequah state hospitals.
The White House said President Truman had not been asked to mediate the Syrian Lebanon dispute. Press Secretary Ross stated no invitation to mediate had been received, despite reports in France. He had no new information to suggest intervention.

The Black Rock school district announces a war bond auction for Monday night June 4 at the Black Rock School west of Allen. Charley Rushing and Bill Pegg will serve as auctioneers and Joe Walker provides music. Pies and many items donated by Allen and Ada merchants and others will be auctioned to raise funds for war bonds.
Chicago welcomed General Mark W. Clark and more than 50 other American veterans arriving from Europe when three army cargo planes landed at the airport. Clark stepped from the plane to a staff car and led a 15 mile memorial day parade into the Loop, following his famed North African and Italian campaigns.
Army top brass including Generals Eisenhower Bradley and Patton are expected to return to the United States within a month. Bradley heads the van guard and may reach the U S within a week. Some generals will visit home towns for receptions before possible moves to Europe or Pacific retraining.
James Joseph Deeds 27 of Oklahoma City must face a firing squad on July 13 for the hammer killing of a California schoolteacher in Utah nearly three years ago. In district court he again fixed his execution date after appeals and a mental evaluation. He told Judge Nelson that the witnesses who convicted him lied. He asked for mercy as he was remanded to state prison in Salt Lake City. Sheriff J Ronald Preece of Uintah County will appoint and command the firing squad.
The war production board lifted the ban on golf ball manufacture today. Total quarterly output will be 224000 dozen, with about 130000 dozen for civilian use. Civilians have used recap balls. new balls use neoprene thread and balata covers as in the past.
Oklahoma City College of Law will award its first law degrees on June 8 to five graduates Anita Ellerbee Marjorie Wilmarth Royle Hussey Earl Nichols and Ralph Stephens all from Oklahoma City. The program follows the 20th legislature granting degree conferral authority.
Paris May 30 The 362nd fighter bomber group under Col Joseph L Laughlin receives its second presidential unit citation for extraordinary heroism in the Moselle Rhine triangle on March 16 attackers of German transport troops and war material. The unit logged 17 736 sorties in 15 months in the European theater.
The Ada Boy Scouts Finance campaign launches with a Thursday breakfast at the Aldridge hotel. Pontotoc county aims to raise part of a $23,000 budget to expand from 1,648 to about 5,000 boys under a new Council program including Cubing Scouting and Senior Scouting.

Nearly 150 Japanese were among 350 members and employees of foreign diplomatic staffs in Berlin who arrived in Moscow after an eight day journey aboard a special train. Others aboard included Swedes, Swiss, Ghanaians and Spaniards.
GUAM May 30 AP Marines penetrated the rockwalled Shuri castle on Okinawa, a 16th century fortress and keystone of Japanese defense. The breach follows gains elsewhere with expecta tion that about half the remaining island could fall within a week.

Washington May 30 OPA raises producers price ceilings for the 1945 wheat crop by 34 cents a bushel to reflect parity. The move covers all grades and adjusts ceilings for deliveries stored at locations other than the farm. Also cut the sample grade discount by 2 cents a bushel.
First Lieutenant Leon Lavender, formerly of the 508th Paratroopers, has arrived in New York per his mother Mrs. Florence Glidewell. Lavender was captured on D Day and held as a prisoner until March 27. he is expected home in about two weeks.

London report says 74 British airborne troops disappeared with Air Vice Marshal J. R. Scarlett-Streatfield on four planes on May 9 while en route to Oslo for occupation duty. The marshal, 36, was reported missing Monday.
