A Ada area farmer Swank reports 560 per acre potential from a strawberry crop after selling 140 crates at 1.50 each, with net about 355.50 per acre after costs. Nearby Maxwell incidents include a knife attack between Buchanans and McClures and arrests.
Realized 60 dollars from the show with the Younger Amusement Co. Ada Saturday night. The Fire Department and the Band Boys share the week's net 68.80, divided equally. Contracts set 15 percent of main show receipts and 26 percent of side show money. Agents Timberlake and Walters praise the result as better than expected.
Washington May 29 Some senators backing Mr Foraker urge quick ship subsidy passage in the current session The subsidy bill passed the Senate but stalls in the House Merchant Marine Committee The Speaker is told a subsidy vote could prompt Senate support for the first Foraker amendment as a statehood compromise.
Washington May 28 Wilburton Bartlesville Duncan and Tulsa will be court towns if the conference report on the Indian appropriation bill is adopted. Conferees say they cannot strike out provisions agreed by both houses. An amendment allows allottees to survey and plat their townsites at their own expense along railroad lines with approval of the Interior Secretary and Five Civilized Tribes commissioner.
A midnight mob of about twenty five armed men rushed a Shreveport jail and hanged Robert T Rogers from a telegraph pole near the courthouse after forcing entry to the jail and attacking his steel cage. Rogers, accused of murder in Girard Louisiana, had a long legal fight with reversals and appeals. The mob action occurred amid a wider legal and political backdrop including a subsidy bill and statehood debates.
For the first Ada Decoration Day observance, veterans from both sides and their families gathered at the News building and walked to the old cemetery with flowers. Chaplain Morgan opened with prayer, followed by Prof. W L Roddie who spoke on faith, memory, and duty to honor fallen soldiers of the War Between the States.
Guthrie reports slow county conventions as statehood outcomes loom. Only Washita has a full Republican ticket. Lincoln may hold. Democrats split on timing. Socialist presence in at least five counties noted. several counties have initiated tickets and Pottawatomie plans a Shawnee meeting. Washington May 29.
Oklahoma City reports a double murder to cover robbery followed by lynching in the Chickasaw nation mountains. An unknown man demanded food from R. T. Tutt's home. a nearby farmhouse was robbed and two sisters shot while defending themselves. A posse tracked the killer and he was shot dead.
The Chickasaw Enrollment Department led by Judge D C Lloyd opened in the court room to accept enrollment applications for minors living on March 4 1906 whose parents are Choctaw Chickasaw members or have pending enrollment. Appointments run through Friday with upcoming sessions at Tishomingo on June 4 and earlier runs in Duncan Chickasha Pauls Valley. Enrollments total 18 by noon Wednesday. failure to enroll forfeits 320 acres and quarterly aid. Rev Rippey left for Fort Worth.
