Sem Melville, a mixed blood Indian near Ada, went to the U S marshal’s office claiming he killed a man and asked to be arrested. He led officers to the woods where the shooting allegedly occurred, but the body of Sloan Johnson had not been found. A later search found Johnson killed by a shotgun blast near Tim Blankenship’s home. Blankenship was arrested as an accomplice.
