Ada community fund drives show mixed results in 1964
A three article series finds six major Ada nonsectarian agencies struggling to meet goals in 1964 with the Ada Community Chest and Pontotoc American Cancer Society lagging. The Chest fell 18 percent short at 30465 of 37344. Cancer Society missed 3200 by 700, with 1500 raised so far.

Skunk Causes Panic With Hound Pup Kennel Incident
Mr and Mrs Coy Byrd Fris co keeper of two hound pups for their son Bob Byrd heard cries from the pen last Wednesday. Mrs Byrd saw the pups climbing to escape and later found a skunk. She called neighbor Alfred Baylis to bring his gun.

Oakman School graduation marks end of era and annexation vote
Oakman held its last graduation in the school gym with four graduates Beverly Manuel David Beach Vicki McLish and Tony Cook. Principal Bill Lee awarded diplomas after a program of skits and speeches. Residents voted to annex Oakman with Byng and preserve the log school as a community center with Mrs J M Nance ending a 23 year stint.

Former Supreme Court Judge Orel Busby Dies at 76
Orel Busby 76 prominent Ada citizen died after a heart attack about 8 p.m. Saturday at his home 1200 Constant Drive and died 30 minutes later at Valley View Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Christian Church. He leaves wife Hope and three sons Philip John Orel and David. David is a New York attorney and former Senate committee counsel. Busby born February 6 1889 in Batesville Arkansas and moved to Ada via Indian Territory then Konawa and Allen before retirement in 1920. He attended Ada Konawa schools and East Central Normal College in 1909 as part of its first graduating class.

USDA conducts farm survey across Oklahoma and nation
The U S Department of Agriculture will visit about 1 500 farms in Oklahoma and 50 000 nationwide between May 24 and June 5 for an enumerative farm survey. Enumerators collect data on planted acres livestock numbers farm wages and labor. Results feed crop and livestock reports used for agricultural decisions. Nitrogen fertilizer guidance follows with 5 pounds per 1000 square feet and frequent light applications.

Konawa Rodeo Planned With Parade and Events
The Konawa FFA Rodeo is set for May 21-22 at the Konawa Rodeo Arena. Events include calf roping ribbon roping bareback bronc riding bull riding and barrel racing with belt buckles for event winners. Admission is $1 for adults 50 cents for children under six free for younger kids.
