Residents reported a glowing object Friday afternoon that initially drew UFO attention. It hovered nearly motionless despite a south wind, remaining unidentified to most observers as speculation ran high.
The Pontotoc County Poultry Tour gathered 75 poultry men to inspect typical units across the county. Visiting extension poultry specialist Alex Warren highlighted ongoing progress and improvements, noting outsiders see rapid advances in comparison to previous years.
The Ada county wool sale will be held at the Ada fairgrounds in Barn No 2 starting at 1 p.m. Friday May 18 with Jack Faulkner of the Texas Wool Company Fort Worth as the buyer. Producers with wool to sell are invited to bring it in and sheepmen from surrounding counties may participate. The county's 3000 head of sheep are about 90 percent shorn, and the previous year’s sale moved 20000 pounds of wool.
The Agricultural Marketing Service reports farm costs are four percent lower than a year ago while general farm prices fall five percent. The net effect is little improvement for farmers on the verge of bankruptcy as income remains down and industrial inputs rise, with costs easing mainly from feed and replacement livestock.
The Boggy Creek Conservancy Association pressed toward forming a conservancy district with a May 16 meeting at Stonewall. Petitions require 25 percent landowner support, a 50 percent target set for safety. About 25 people attended, including officials from nearby districts and volunteers. Dr Willard Rhynes noted broad regional interest and voluntary, unpaid work funded by donations. Committee members listed include Dave Roberts chair and others.
Plans for the Stonewall Old Timers Reunion on May 27 gain momentum led by Anna Young of Ada and Lula Darnell of Tulsa. Organizers hope Clifton McKay of Pruitt City and L. M. Cass of Ada will speak. A coffee and cold drinks stand is planned on the grounds and families should bring basket lunches. Reminiscences recount Stonewall’s founding in 1903 and early town figures.
