Mack is a small black dog with a white waistcoat living near East Jesse with his owner Harvey Caldwell. Unlike trained dogs, Mack learns on his own and acts as a true partner, understanding what is needed and waiting for authorization to act.
Allen Oklahoma district census shows 54 fewer school age children in 1956 with 392. Preschools rose by 11 as families moved to Duncan and other areas after Sunray refinery shutdown. Enrollment barely exceeds last year’s average daily attendance and one teacher may be cut in state aid for 1956-57.
Pontotoc County poultrymen will tour seven farms Tuesday May 15 1956 leaving the courthouse at 9 15 am. The event includes lunch at Ada Country Club with speakers Dr John West and Alex Warren and a film by Bob Calvert on Marketing Quality Eggs. Transportation is available and participants may join along the route.
Stonewall residents and ex-residents will gather Sunday May 27 for the first reunion and old settlers day at Magnolia Park. Promoters include Anna Burnett Young of Ada and Lula Harper Darnell of Tulsa. The event starts around 1 to 1 30 p.m. to fit morning church services.
Nineteen Vanoss FFA members gathered on Chris Pedersen’s farm for a brush control demonstration. They swung axes and used paint brushes and oil to apply a kerosene mix to stumps, leaving some large trees intact to show selective clearing.
The 1956 shearing season begins this week with WL Weir of Fort Worth leading a crew of Mexican shearers. Weir clipped over 20,000 pounds of wool from Pontotoc County sheep last year and is back in the area to continue the operation.
Oklahoma A&M College agricultural economists Dr. George Judge and Dr. James Plaxico produced a circular with four hog marketing principles. They urge analysis of feed to weight, feed costs, hog prices, and a set of economic rules to guide production. They note about 85 percent of costs are feed and that extra feed beyond a point does not improve returns.
