Janelle Norton a 20 year old East Central State College junior won Miss Ada 1963 through a blend of beauty and poise. She captured Miss Congeniality by vote of contestants and defeated rivals Linda Robertson and Delinda Diaz for the crown. A capacity Ada audience witnessed the pageant with Miss Oklahoma Pageant Director Mrs. Troy Hoskins present.

Latta Holds Commencement and Graduation Schedule
The Latta commencement for the class of 1963 is set for 8 p.m. May 23 with Dr. John O'Hara of the University of Education as speaker. The junior high graduation is at 8 p.m. May 21 and baccalaureate services are at 8 p.m. Sunday May 12 led by Rev. Jack Freeman of Latta Cumberland.

Allen Pair conducts pasture improvement demonstrations with George Bain and George Cosper applying 400 pounds of 7-24-24 fertilizer on April 11 and planning 50 pounds of actual nitrogen per acre this week. A July 1 nitrogen spray is planned. Thomas Ranch applies malathion on 12.0 acres of vetch to combat the bruchid weevil, with one pound per acre and two more sprays at 10-day intervals.

Pontotoc County Homemakers Tour Oklahoma City Highlights
Eighty five members from Pontotoc County Home Demonstration Club joined an educational tour Tuesday. They visited Tinker Field and Air Base the Capitol the Sohquoyah Office Building lunch at the emergency operating center the governor's mansion and Continental Baking Company. The tour ended at Redding Shopping Center. Mrs K J Felkins chaired the tour committee with help from Mrs Arthur Hart and Mrs Harden. Travel was by chartered buses.

New Pike Turnpike Route Favored by Senate Committee
A state Senate bill by Allen G. Nichols to authorize a Robert S. Kerr Memorial Turnpike was unanimously endorsed by the highways committee. The toll road would run from Tulsa or Henryetta, southwest to Ada, then toward Oklahoma City, and finally connect with I-35 near Sulphur-Davis, with much engineering already completed.

Shipe Announces May 15 Dispersal Sale of Shady Springs Angus
A complete dispersal sale of the Jack and Marie Louise Shipe units from Shady Springs Farm Angus is slated for May 15 south of Ada. Eight bulls and 71 females will be offered starting at 1 p.m. The sale, near Ada on State Highway 99, is managed by Phil Ljungdahl with Ray Sims as auctioneer and limited guest consignments from Ker Mac Ranches. Many cows carry calves and reflect bloodlines from Keystone B 47 and Keystone 200.
