A heavy storm swept Colorado with rain on the plains and snow in the mountains on Monday causing railroad washouts and delays. Hail and high winds damaged orchards and gardens though no injuries were reported. The moisture is seen as valuable for ranges, crops, and mining water. an advertisement promises a coin trick at Burch's barber shop by Jackson for a limited time.
The Progressive Party issues a convention call for Wednesday May 11 at 2 PM at Wolf Springs ten miles north of Tishomingo. Prominent Chickasaw leaders urge all citizens to attend to nominate governorship and attorney general roles and to discuss tribal affairs and the estate valued in the millions.
A Hugo Oklahoma dispatch reports William Shef field his wife and two daughters slain in cold blood at Valliant Oklahoma. A son 16 heard the shots and found the murderer dead after fleeing. A mob pursued John Wallenbury Sheffield’s son in law to the river where he killed himself to avoid capture.
Madill Oklahoma May 5 Kingston district endorses Dr Hailey while Mr Dick gains less support. Seven to five favor Hailey with three Dick supporters abstaining. The small club with 76 members aims to influence the convention and seeks Tishomingo support to back home rule and representation. The Chickasaw Nation urged to align with Democrats.
By May 7 the Citizens National Bank of Ada will occupy a new banking house praised as the finest in the Indian Territory. Officers cite quarter-sawed oak furnishings, mosaic floor, a frescoed ceiling, plate glass windows, and a modern low pressure steam system as proof of quality and progress for the city.
Reports from Chefoo to Tokio describe Russian cruisers sinking Japanese transports near Chinampo with 500 troops aboard and many coolies, and Japanese bombardment of Chin Tien Cheng forts. The Valued engagements include Port Arthur firefights and Russian casualties reported heavy.
In Sherman Texas on May 5 a double killing at John Stevenson's Frisco business left Stevenson and M. R. White dead. Deputies Burris and Kirk with twenty officers attempted to arrest two men. Stevenson produced a knife triggering the fatal exchange. Fletcher Harrison was accidentally shot in the cheek but not seriously hurt.
Des Moines Iowa May 5 Iowa awarded its 26 delegates to William Randolph Hearst. Four delegates at large and twenty-two district delegates were bound by a 515 to 371 vote in the state convention. The unit rule for the national convention was adopted by acclamation. seven district delegates were anti Hearst.
Hearst carries eight of ten Chicago congressional districts as of May 5, signaling overwhelming Illinois support. Report notes Illinois secured by Hearst despite opposition from local and state Democratic machines, forecasting about a 75 000 vote majority if nominated.
A Kingston posse captured Gaines Hall the Black man who attacked Mrs. Josiah Okens. He was tied to a tree at the scene and shot by bullets. Word spread as locals visited the site and reported the body remained there with resistance to burial.
In Ardmore I T on May 4 the Lebanon and Cornish clubs unanimously instructed for R. W. Dick as their candidate for national committeeman.
